I think this Italian suffix "teca" comes from the same Greek root that also shows up in French as "theque". For instance, like in "discotheque".

Thanks to both of you - now I know the origin of 'teca' - thanks to Cristian.
And thanks to you Joe for pointing out an English/French word with the same roots - discotheque. Which in Italian is another 'teca' - discoteca - and it is still widely used here in Italy, whereas in the UK 'disco' is very 70s.
