Sounds like you were in my 'zona'.... The train situation is a nightmare, especially in August. It's worth it once you sit back with a glass of red and a view of the hills, but at the time not much fun!! If there's no traffic you can do it by car in an hour...

Yep, I did think about you. It certainly is a wine zone. Very nice area, but then Italy is full of them, indeed, Italy is a very nice area, with the exception of one or two cities, maybe.
And I was told that on a clear day, it takes around 50 minutes to get there from Milan.
My Tre mobile would not pick up email in the area though, which was a shame. I wouldn't mind living around there one bit. Might end up drinking too much wine though!
